Come to Think of it, That Tattoo of the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes Didn’t Go So Well Either
October 6th, 2009
Ink Spotter: Kara
This is actually the result of an unfortunate misunderstanding. A French history buff, this guy went to the tattoo parlor and asked for an image of a fallen gendarme, but the soi-disant artist heard “ball of yarn.”
Long story short, after a few frustrating months of trying to learn how to knit, he gave up and had the kittens added instead. Turns out it’s a lot easier to feign an obsession with cats than it is to master the backwards loop cast-on method.

Curious! I wonder what the real explanation is. Kind of kewl! :O
Best tattoo evar?
(yes)
I saw this, and immediately had to look up Casey to make sure our boy hadn’t gotten his tattoo removed, only to have a stupider one put in its place. I’m happy (really, happy?) to say that he didn’t.
This is an awesome Tattoo! I should get it!
@Redd
LOL, I was thinking the same thing. Maybe this is Casey’s twin brother?
That looks like Sharpie
Maybe it’s the lovely symmetry, maybe it’s the fact that I have three cats, but I think this tattoo is awesome.
I think it looks really great. The lines are clean, the yarn actually looks like yarn, and the kittens look cute and fluffy. It’s really awesome!
I love it AND he has made himself virtually irresistable to women everywhere.
I myself would never have that tattooed on me, but it’s really adorable.
My two kittehs approve.
When this is finished, it will be AWESOME! I’m kinda sad I didn’t think of this one first….
I like it. All I ask is that you post a pic when it is finished.
He needs some chest hair he can groom to look like cat fur. That would be 3-D liscious!
Awesome tat, and bonus points to you for proper knitting reference.
I actually really like this tattoo. But that’s just me.
I’m in love with that dude.
Backwards loop cast-on is really easy — would’ve been more believable if you’d written long-tail cast-on or kitchener stitch instead. Also I love this tattoo!
yes- though odd it’s well done enough that i’m sure he must have some kind of explanation for it- and it’s certainly not boring!
Sorry, don’t think it’s real.
This makes me think of the kittens of rathergood.com and makes me want to take you to a gay bar.
*reads above approving posts in stunned silence*…
Gotta say I like it too.
Actually I really like this one. I wish I would have thought of it myself. I don’t think it’s a sucky idea or poorly executed, so not sure why it’s here. Anyone care to enlighten me as to why it’s ugly?
It does look like it’s drawn with a Sharpie, but the detail on the ball of yarn is amazing. So…why do such detail only to have it wash off? A dry run of a future tat? Maybe this guy was raised by two cats that have since died and this is his tribute to Momma Cat and Papa Cat.
i wouldn’t get a tat like this, but i think it is cute. it just looks strange on a guy. more a girl kind of stuff. i want to see it when it’s finished too though. sweet kittehs
cute tattoo….i like cats
.- i suppose this tat is a symbol for cat heaven?
I think this one is ok
I think it’s a twee sickening piece of crap.
I think the guy had two cats that he loved. They died, he got the tat in their honor. It’s really not a bad looking tat… just not something you’d expect on a guy.
This is proof that hipster tattoos suck.
Most awesome frakkin’ tatto ever!
Kitties always tug at the heart strings
Awe….
*Develops a cavity from the sickening cuteness of it all*
This probably isn’t real though…
Sorry just a minute
*Smacks VeryLisa*
That is all…
This is awesome.
its a cute tattoo… but you know this guy is a douchebag.
I actually HOPE this is Sharpie, so when I get this awesome tattoo I will be the only one with it! Except I have a slightly, um, lumpier canvas…so it won’t look quite the same.
No way, LOVE IT. My only complaint is that the cat’s tails could be a bit longer and more expressive. Also, thanks Lisa @#32
That is the most calculated chick magnet I’ve ever seen. Kittens? Angels? Knitting? Score.
I personally, think this tattoo is AWESOME.
Not one I’d ink on myself permanently mind you..
I think this tattoo might be a reference to quantum mechanics; the two kitties represent the superposition of Schrödinger’s cat, and the ball of wool symbolises quantum entanglement. Or at a stretch, string theory.
Could be wrong though. Doesn’t explain the wings.
I don’t know if its been said yet, but I believe (its been awhile since I’ve seen the anime) that this is a scene from Excel Saga and that the two “kitties” are in fact one of the shows main characters named Menchi (who is in fact a dog in the anime). Now I have to go watch the anime again cuz it made me think of it lol
Definitely not the same guy as Casey. Whilst the concept is kind of weird I don’t all together hate this one, it’s not terribly done, and I am dying to know the story behind it. Maybe he works at the spca?
lol
i’m in love with him
no, seriously
he’s the awesome-est person
ever
It’s an adorable image…but I sure as hell wouldn’t get it permanently injected into my skin. And especially not THAT LARGE.
AND on a GUY.
I actually kinda like that one.
Yeah String Theory is my guess too.
I kinda like this one…
